Buenos Aires, March 18 (NA) – President Javier Milei led a tribute to Adam Smith this Wednesday at the Libertad Palace, on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the publication of 'The Wealth of Nations,' a work considered foundational to modern economics. The head of state participated in the event alongside National Deputy Adrián Ravier and economist Juan Carlos de Pablo, in an activity centered on the ideas that, as he explained, guide the economic policy of his administration. During his speech, Milei vindicated Adam Smith's intellectual legacy and stated that, 'if Adam Smith is called the father of Economics based on this work, the title is more than earned.' In the same vein, he affirmed that his administration does not seek to innovate on these postulates but to deepen them: 'I am not inventing anything, I am applying it to the maximum,' he expressed, according to information released about the event. The head of state also linked this economic perspective with a broader political definition. In this sense, he emphasized that his administration works from 'a vision of how the future should be' and therefore considers it central 'morality as state policy,' an idea he had already developed in recent speeches and which is part of the conceptual approach he has been reiterating in his discourses. The tribute to Smith was held in one of the venues that the ruling party has been using for activities with strong ideological and economic content. According to the Argentine News Agency, among those present were the Chief of Staff, Manuel Adorni; the Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo; the Minister of Deregulation and State Transformation, Federico Sturzenegger; the head of the Central Bank, Santiago Bausili; the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Martín Menem; and Senator Patricia Bullrich, among other libertarian officials and leaders. The figure of Adam Smith occupies a central place in the President's doctrinal universe, who often presents him as one of the decisive authors in the defense of the free market, the division of labor, and economic growth. In this context, the tribute also served as a new political signal from Milei to reaffirm the economic course of his government from a historical reference of classical liberalism.
